Our History, Our story, Tricoloire

In 2020, Tricoloire began when its owners Nicola and Kyle brought their unique trio-set of Gites in Gennes-Val-de-Loire, France.

The story of Tricoloire however begins much earlier, back in 2018, when Kyle and Nicola got engaged in Chenehutte, a village in the Loire valley and fell in love with the place. Already set on investing in brick and mortar, it seemed like fate to venture into setting up shop in the Loire district of France, a place that holds personal significance to them.

So, their journey of Tricoloire was well underway, and it was time for them to find a place to invest in and turn into a beautiful getaway to enjoy, both for themselves and their loved ones. That is when they were presented with the property now known as La Maison Rouge which they instantly knew was the right fit. However, La Maison Rouge was not a standalone property on offer, but a part of a trio of houses that needed some love and attention. Nicola, a businesswoman and Kyle a musician knew that they could combine their skills of business and creativity to put something original on offer for others and decided to take on the challenge of turning the other two houses of the trio set into gites for other people to enjoy.

That is when La Maison Bleu and La Maison Blanche were born and would become a part of the Tricoloire brand, which was inspired by the colours of the French flag, the name coming from the merging of the Tricoloire of the French flag and the Loire Valley. The three gites would become a symbol of the beauty of France for Nicola and Kyle, who fell in love with it all those years ago.

Fast-forward to February 2020, when the couple are handed the keys to their beautiful property, COVID-19 arrives and puts the world on a hold. Unable to travel to France for months and being stuck in the UK, cost of materials rising and being confronted with a communication barrier, Tricoloire was set back, and it was up to Nicola and Kyle to rise to the challenge. Once travel restrictions were lifted and the world was beginning to get back on its feet, Kyle made the difficult choice to leave his job as a music teacher and fully invest his time into getting Tricoloire running.

Now in 2024 we can see that his and Nicola’s decision has paid off, Tricoloire is finally open for business, and its gites are beautiful and scenic, true to the essence of the Loire Valley it is situated, with Tricoloire’s village a UNESCO heritage site.

Tricoloire is committed to making sure that you have an amazing time at one of our gites, and we recommend fully immersing yourself in what the Loire Valley has to offer! Taking advantage of the river the gites are on and going for a boat ride or reconnecting with nature all around the site.

We hope to see you all sometime soon.
